Fabu was Madison’s first African American Poet Laureate from 2008-2012, when she put poetry in "unusual places and spaces." She has poetry displayed on sidewalks and inside buildings throughout Madison. As a literary artist, she creates and shares writing that reflects living in Memphis, Tennessee; Nairobi, Kenya; and Madison, Wisconsin. She has published four books: Poems, Dreams and Roses, In Our Own Tongues, Journey to Wisconsin, and Love Poems. Her newest book, Remember Me, Mary Lou Williams in Poetry, will be available in 2017. Journey to Wisconsin won an Outstanding Achievement in Poetry award by the Wisconsin Library Association. A Pushcart Prize nominee in poetry and a Silver Award winner in poetry by Madison Magazine, her poems have appeared in numerous literary journals. She is included in several anthologies: Echolocations, Hybrid, and I Didn't Know There Were Latinos in Wisconsin. Fabu is a graduate of UW-Madison with two masters; one in African Literature and the other in Afro-American Studies.
